The Rally Car
1200 coupe
Hope to have her ready for to move into a regular rallying schedule for 2004
Gonna paint it up (canary yellow) and then put the hard word on some of my local automotive places for some small forms of sponsership.

First off I'll explain the limitations on rallycars (AUS) so you dont sit there scratching your head wondering why I dont have flares and a turbo!. Basically we are restricted to the original engine block (not allowed turbo but can inject) and basically cant modify any body or structural parts of the car, meaning suspension and brakes etc. can be changed as long as they will bolt up to the original mountings

Its been a good car, when I registered it I figured it would be easier to get roadworthy before doing any modifications. Ever since though Ive been taking it off the road for weeks modifying this and that.

The car was reasnobly quick with the old diff (standard 3.9:1) but I couldn't grab fifth gear even at 120kmh so with the 4.9:1 im hoping to see some good acceleration. biggest problem though was that I bought the motor from a rolled 1200 rally car, this car was dedicated to rally (unlike mine as its my road car too at the moment) this meant the owner didnt care much that the chokes in the carbs were too big and the cam was huge, the motor would cough and splutter at anything under 3000rpm, but this didnt matter cause the car only saw those low revs at the end of a rally stage.

This is why i've put SU's on now, they are a lot better than every one implies, i like them and am happy with them. I actually picked a B310 injection setup, this will go on the road car till i get a CA18DET for it, then ill transfer the injection to the rally car.

Onto the paintwork I decided to add that white strip along the bottom and over the wheels as I found this would cover most of my rust repairs and I wouldnt have to worry about paint colors matching, I reckon it looks good anyway.

Actually it was just last night i offered my mate $400 to respray it canary yellow for me, so yeah hes going to do that when i get the cash, and when it's looking all pretty I'll be asking my mechanic, auto store dude and maybe a couple of others for some small type of sponsership, so hopefully ill be posting pics of a yellow car carrying sponsership stickers soon.

27th October, 2002: (My First Rally)

well scrutineers made me buy brand new rubber brake lines which run to the front calipers but other than that all good!, cost $90 including fitting

anyway onto the event:

well it was fun, even though i only did one stage

on the second transport we kind of missed aturn and then after finding the right road arrived at a sign which said "private property do not enter", so we turned around and piss farted aroun trying all the roads coming off but they all lead to houses, eventually finding a local and he says go straight up the hill, so i though bugger it and blasted past the private property sign to fing the officials waiting, they tell us they were wondering what happended to us but the sweep car had already entered that stage and therefore our rally was over as effectively the road was now open to public

im pretty pissed as im supposed to have "late time" which allows for these things and the sweep car should not have entered that next competitive stage before the time had elapsed

so anyway after meeting up with service crew im driving out and these roads mind you had these HUGE potholes and i managed to bend a rear shocker after hitting one and had to pull it out as it busted off the bottom mount, so i had to drive home with no rear shock too to add to the pain

what can i say "oh well next time"
there supposed to be one novemeber 20 something but thats in the middle of exams

i did have a lot of fun on the first stage, missed most turnoffs but eventually finishd, most novice navigators struggled so im not too worried about that, we plan to go up there one night soon and finish the rally on our own to gain the experience that we should have, if it wasnt for that lazy sweep not doin his job proper
