Not my area of expertise!
(maybe someone can help me out here)
Anyway from what i know

32/36 Downdraught weber:

You can get one at the wreckers off a 2ltr escort or 2ltr cortina pretty cheap, this will improve your cars performance and allows easy fitting of performance filters, to fit it to your car you will need an adaptor plate (bout $50 from auto shop) and it should bolt straight up, youll need to fabricate a bracket for the accelerator cable to mount to and also run the heater hoses through it to run the choke and once installed youll have to get it rejetted and tuned for your car, my mate and me put one on his gemini it cost $45 for the carb $50 for adaptor and about $200 for total rebuild (cause we got a crap one which needed it bad), jet and tune carby. When getting carbie check for play in shafts and corrosion of choke housing if you intend to use it. We did not use the choke on this cause it interfered with the brake booster and the motor runs pretty good when cold so thats an option. I would suggest a total rebuild of the carb if you can afford it because i think it made a huge diffrence!. The gemini performed a lot better than before when the secondary throat opens up (full throttle), uses a bit more juice i think but definately worth it.

Twin SU's sidedraught:

Usually come with a gx head but also can get off 180b SSS and other datsuns, these require a special intake manifold which if cant be found should be able to be made for around $200. These are a single throat carbie with a reputation for being hard to tune and also for falling out of tune quickly, but i had these for a short time and they seemed pretty good compared to a standard carb.

They are much cheaper than weber or delorto's for around $150 with manifold and probably worth it if you dont plan on spending big for other twin sidies.

The ones with round tops are pre-emmision versions and are supposed to be better than square top ones but i wouldnt be too picky.

Twin webers/delortos: (ill fix the spelling when i see it written somewhere else)

These have twin throats and require a diffrent intake manifold to SU's, but will fit on the same as each other.
Its arguable which is better but basically webers are still being made and you can get new parts for em where delortos stopped being made in early 90's. Both are available in many sizes usually 42,45,48mm but for small motors they all recieve chokes of about 30-32mm so theres no need to hunt the bigger ones, i have twin 42 webers and they are awesome i love the noise and i know they are helping my hp figures a lot, at the moment they have 34mm chokes but my mechanics changing them to 32mm so my car actually runs smoothly under 3000rpm

Downside, a set of these will cost at least $600 but more likely $800, and they need to be in good condition because both carbs have to act identical to the other otherwise it isnt worth having them cause your car will run like crap and probably blow your motor. parts are not cheap for these carbs either, getting them tuned properly first time is going to cost you a bit and if anythings missing they cost a lot to replace, guy that sold me mine left out two bolts for the fuel rail (fuel runs down centre of bolt into carb) theres $50, to change the chokes $50 a choke and theres four of them.

Not blowing my own trumpet but all the good cars have em and there is a reason for it!
